The city within a city: How Easton Town Center Redefines Retail Experience

With over 25 million visitors per year, Easton Town Center was recently selected by Chain Store Age magazine as the top Retail Experience of 2019. This indoor and outdoor shopping complex is located in Columbus, Ohio and is designed to look like a self-contained 1950’s American town.

The layout of Easton Town Center is organized through a grid of streets which is contained by a loop that eases car traffic. Storefront parking is available as well as several indoor and outdoor garages. The shopping center has over 1,800,000 square feet (170,000 m2) of retail space which is currently occupied by more than 300 tenants including Nordstrom, Macy’s, Louis Vuitton, Tiffany & Co., Crate & Barrel, Apple, Brio Tuscan Grille, and Smith & Wollensky. It was also the first location of Hollister Co. which opened its doors in 2000.

Most businesses at Easton occupy structures of varying sizes with a similar external appearance to create the illusion of being located in a small town. The only indoor section is the Station Building (which houses a 30-screen movie theater), while the rest of the complex is outdoors. The shopping center also features a large fountain and a park which also work as meeting points and event venues.

To increase daily traffic, Easton Town Center constantly schedules free cooking demonstrations, concerts, yoga classes, and open air film screenings. It also hosts annual events including Chalk the Block, Halloween Pet Parade and Fall Festival, and a Holiday Lighting Ceremony.

With over 35,000 employees, the shopping center is ready to serve thousands of visitors every day and has become a tourist attraction due to its sheer size and variety of shops. Last year, Easton Town Center announced a 500 million investment on an expansion that will result in the construction of a new hotel, apartments, and even more retail space.

“Easton Town Center has made it a top priority to deliver amazing experiences to all guests,” stated Jennifer Peterson, Chief Executive of Easton to ABC News “Easton’s core value of experiential innovation is incorporated in everything we do. From opening a Shop/LAB space for new-to-market concepts to partnering with the country’s top science museum for families, we strive to create lasting memories and special experiences for each of our visitors.”
